A cake order is a small project: a flavour, a weight, egg or eggless, a message on top, a date and a time. Over WhatsApp that takes ten messages and one mistake. A store takes it in one go — the customer picks the cake and its options, chooses a delivery slot and types the message, and you get a clear order with the price already settled.
What a cake buyer checks before ordering
- Flavour and weight, and how many people that weight serves.
- Egg or eggless. For many families this decides the order.
- Lead time: can you do tomorrow, or does a theme cake need three days?
- Delivery area and time: do you come to them, and when.
- The price for exactly what they want, with nothing to ask about later.
- Your FSSAI number — more buyers look for it every year.
Set up the store
Sign up on storzu.com with Google or your email address, choose Home Made Foods, and verify your mobile number — your cakes go live once it is verified. Your store starts on a free store-xxxxxx.storzu.com link; a named address or your own domain can come later and the first link keeps working. Pick a design from the live demo stores; the store designs guide shows them all.
List each cake once, with options
Add a cake with its photo and description, then its options: weight (500 g, 1 kg, 2 kg) and egg or eggless, plus flavour if one recipe comes in several. Each option carries its own price and its own stock. Put servings in the description — “1 kg serves 8–10” — because buyers think in guests, not grams.
Use stock as your baking capacity. If you can bake four 1 kg cakes a day, set that option to four and top it up each morning. When you are full, the store says so before a customer orders a cake you can't make.

Delivery slots, the cake message and lead time
Set delivery time slots that match your oven, such as 11 am–2 pm and 5–8 pm; checkout then asks every delivery customer to pick one, so orders spread across the day instead of landing at once. The order note takes the message for the cake and the date it is needed. There is no calendar picker, so state your lead time on each cake — “order 24 hours ahead”, “theme cakes: 3 days” — and say in your description how far you deliver.
FSSAI and food labels
Any home-food business in India needs at least an FSSAI Basic Registration: about ₹100 a year for turnover under ₹12 lakh, applied for at foscos.fssai.gov.in. Add the 14-digit number and its expiry to your store's legal details and it shows in your store footer with its validity. Mention nuts, gluten and gelatine in each description; parents of children with allergies read every word.
Photos
Three shots per cake, in daylight on a plain plate or board: the whole cake from a slight overhead angle, a side view of the layers, and a cut slice. Studio photo (15 AI credits a photo) replaces a cluttered kitchen counter with a clean background and evens out the light.
Getting the cake there
- Pickup: the easiest for cakes; offer it on every order.
- Your own delivery: within a few kilometres, with your delivery fee on the order.
- Same-day riders: connect your own Borzo or Shiprocket Quick account and checkout prices a rider from the customer's address; you book it from the order and the customer tracks it live. The rider charge is billed to your own account. See how same-day delivery works.
- Couriers for dry bakes: cookies, rusks and cake jars travel by courier through your own Shiprocket or NimbusPost account.
Pack cakes in a box with a flat base, and send the customer a photo of the packed cake before it leaves.
Orders and payment
The customer checks out on your store and pays by UPI straight into your bank account, by cash on delivery, or through your own payment gateway; Storzu takes no per-order commission. The order lands in your dashboard, and on the confirmation screen the customer can send it to you on WhatsApp in one tap, with the items, total and tracking link already filled in.
Birthdays, festivals and repeat customers
- Combo boxes: a fixed price for brownies plus cookies, or a festive hamper at Diwali and Christmas. See offers, loyalty and referrals.
- Free delivery above an amount, which nudges a cake order to add a box of cupcakes.
- A coupon code per broadcast, so you know which WhatsApp message brought the orders.
- A “cake of the week” at the top of your store gives regulars a reason to look again.
